Columbia County Connects has used the Search Institute Profiles of Student Life: "Attitudes and Behaviors" survey since 2001.This survey is used to measure assets among youth in area schools. The survey is currently administered to grades 7, 9, and 11 in the ten Columbia County schools. The data collected contains important insights about the young people in the communities. It includes information about the challenges they face and the internal strengths and external supports they have to overcome these challenges.Findings from this data are shared with key people and allow the Columbia County Connects Coalition to begin the important work of asset building. This entire process requires a long-term, community-wide effort.Asset building is not a program, but a catalyst for connecting and empowering all sections of the community.Information contained in this survey allows school districts to compare the use of alcohol and drugs and their use as the students continue through high school.
